On Aire Ep. 29 w/ M&M Quality Solutions – The Art of Industrial Real Estate Podcast
📦 Integrated Logistics: 3PL Diversification, Food-Grade Safety, & Health-and-Wellness Supply Chains with M&M Quality Solutions 🎙️ Episode 29 of On Air with Team Jensen: The Art of Industrial Real Estate
In the twenty-ninth episode of On Air with Team Jensen: The Art of Industrial Real Estate, hosts Kurt and Stuart Jensen sit down with Brian McMaster (CEO & Founder) and Jeff Hines (Chief Operating Officer) of M&M Quality Solutions. Spanning a 22-year corporate evolution from an on-site quality inspection supplier for Harley-Davidson into a multi-state 3PL and supply chain integrator, the executive team breaks down market diversification, food-grade compliance, and the boom in health and wellness manufacturing distribution.
🏍️ The Harley-Davidson Roots & Unlocking 3PL Scale
Founded in 2003, M&M Quality Solutions got its start inside Harley-Davidson’s Kansas City assembly plant, performing line-side quality control, parts sorting, and component inspection. When Harley requested inventory storage and metered line delivery, M&M organically entered the commercial warehousing space. While Harley-Davidson accounted for 99% of M&M’s revenue for over a decade, Brian systematically executed a long-term diversification model. Today, Harley represents under 3% of total revenue, with no single client accounting for more than 10% of their business across four strategically placed facilities in Kansas City, KS (Fairfax), Kansas City, MO, Salt Lake City, UT, and York, PA.
🥗 The Health, Wellness, & Food-Grade Advantage
With Jeff Hines joining the executive leadership team bringing over 30 years of food manufacturing, HACCP compliance, and USDA/FDA quality assurance experience (having led quality programs for General Mills, Pillsbury, and global McDonald’s suppliers), M&M is executing a targeted expansion into the health, wellness, and better-for-you consumable sector:
-
High-Growth Startups: As major food conglomerates acquire emerging supplement, protein, and nutraceutical brands, M&M provides flexible, high-compliance warehousing that legacy industrial operators are rarely equipped to handle.
-
Turnkey Integration: Shifting away from the transactional “3PL” label, M&M positions itself as a full-service supply chain integrator—combining warehousing with quality rework, assembly kitting, and an internal retail display manufacturing arm (building, filling, and shipping corrugated, metal, and acrylic displays directly to big-box storefronts).
🇺🇸 Reshoring, Supply Chain Backups, & The Central Hub
Reflecting on broader industrial supply chain movements, Brian and Jeff discuss the accelerating wave of domestic reshoring as brands pull manufacturing operations out of overseas markets. Furthermore, lessons learned from pandemic-era logistics disruptions—where e-commerce giants prioritized essential medical supplies over standard retail goods—have led national consumer brands to maintain secondary safety stock within M&M’s midwestern distribution network, capitalizing on Kansas City’s two-day transit access to 85% of the U.S. population.
