[Intro – Host: Team Jensen]
Host: teaching you the art of industrial real estate this is on air with Team Jensen all right listeners welcome to episode 18 of on air with Team Jensen today we have George Grieb with Lynn Electric on with us thanks for coming on George
George: happy to be here guys excited to dive into it with you all
Host: george is the owner and CEO of Lynn Electric which has been around since 1977 and has a massive footprint in Lawrence and the Kansas City metro area so we are very excited to hear your story today
George: thanks for the invite I appreciate what you all are doing with this platform
[The History and Growth of Lynn Electric]
George: lynn electric actually started back in 1977 primarily wiring houses for local homebuilders in the Lawrence area
George: i took over ownership of the company down the road back in 1999
George: over the last few decades we’ve grown the operation significantly from a local residential shop into a premier regional electrical contractor
George: today we have around 45 employees and our depth of services has expanded to include major commercial and industrial new construction design build projects and emergency maintenance
Host: you guys also have a full-scale underground and excavation division now right
George: yes we do our underground and excavation crews perform about 95% of their work across the entire Kansas City metro on both the Kansas and Missouri sides
[The Construction and Labor Market]
Host: looking at the current construction landscape in Kansas City things have been moving fast with mega-projects data centers and manufacturing facilities popping up everywhere how has that impacted your team
George: the sheer volume of work out there is incredible but it brings massive resource and manpower challenges
George: providing our field teams with the proper training, safety resources, and administrative support is our highest priority right now to keep pace with demand
George: the skilled labor market is tight so your company culture has to be spot on to retain top talent
[The Business Philosophy: Customer Experience]
George: i tell our team all the time that in a standard service business technology has democratized the field—the smallest local contractor has access to the exact same software and tools as a Fortune 500 company
George: because the tools are a level playing field our only true competitive advantage is the absolute quality of the customer experience
George: i always quote Warren Buffett who noted that he had never seen a business fail that truly delighted its customers
George: long after a client forgets exactly how much they paid for an electrical installation or an infrastructure upgrade they never forget how your team made them feel during the process
[Community Impact and Industry Alliances]
Host: you guys are deeply tied to the local community supporting dozens of families in Douglas County
George: absolutely as a small business owner my focus is to proactively support the local ecosystem by buying local and investing in advocacy groups like the Chamber of Commerce that support small enterprise growth
George: we also partner heavily with regional industrial real estate and development teams to make sure electrical infrastructure is seamlessly integrated into massive site planning long before the first shovel hits the dirt
Host: that early collaboration is everything in our world to prevent massive project delays down the road especially with utility components
[Wrap-Up]
Host: really appreciate you jumping on with us today George it’s awesome seeing a local contractor scale up so successfully while keeping their core values intact
George: thanks for having me fellas look forward to seeing the next episodes
